This softcover book with 128 full color pages traces the construction of fortified castles in the Middle Ages from the exceptional adventure in Burgundy: to build today a castle according to medieval techniques.
Who has ever wondered when visiting a castle on the construction techniques of medieval builders? Where did the materials come from? How were they routed? What tools were used? How did the builders mount the heavy loads?
The medieval site of Guédelon delivers these secrets of construction to the visitors. The builders of this experimental site have found a wild site, an old wooded quarry, a landscape of the year 1000. With this stone and wood, quarries, stone cutters, masons, lumberjacks, carpenters, tiliers, tailors, basket makers... built a castle in the respect of the techniques of the 12th century.
This book proposes a journey between past and present, a comparison of the state of our present knowledge (Manuscripts, illuminations...) and the discoveries made at Guédelon.
