French furniture : Regency, Louis 15th, Transition, Louis 16th, by C.P. Wiegandt, Ed. Massin, 7-½ inches x 9-½ inches ( 19 cm x 24 cm ), hardcover book with 192 full color pages

This hardcover book with 192 full color pages presents the French furniture in its historical context during the Regency period, the Louis 15th period, the Transition and the Louis 16th period.
Transitional style, the Regency style has many characteristic elements of the Louis XIV period while others will be in the Louis XV style. The forms are imposing, the lines are short, and the fantasy mingles with the richness. The Louis XV style is dominated by a taste of comfort and intimacy: the curve triumphs, the lightness is of rule, without however exclude the richness of the decoration. In the 18th century, the discovery of the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum led throughout Europe, a new attraction for the Antiquity and the Greco-Roman Art, and contributes to create a new style Transition more streamlined, characterized by the straight line and the scrupulous respect of proportions and balance. The pompean taste is adorned with the Louis XVI period, all the charms of the 18th century. The natural flowers, the draperies, the knots of ribbon bring a fancy and a suppleness which stripes the classic taste of any severity.

Description

Le Mobilier Français : Régence, Louis XV, Transition, Louis XVI, de C.P. Wiegandt, Ed.
