Art-Deco and Egyptomanie, Ed. Norma, 10 inches x 11-½ inches ( 25 cm x 29 cm ), hardcover book with 272 color pages

This hardcover book with 272 pages and more than 300 illustrations presents the Art-Deco.
The discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 brought ancient Egypt and Egyptomania back into the spotlight. The "tutmania" is spreading in all areas - theater, comics, architecture, decorative arts, fashion and even advertising.
The treasures discovered stimulate the big houses: Lanvin, Cartier, Van Cleef, Lacloche... combine the antique and the spirit of the 1920s by borrowing motifs such as the heads of Horus, ibis, cats, jackals or lotus flowers.
The wind of Egypt also blows on the performing arts: posters, sets and costumes are invested with hieroglyphs, plants and animals.Cecil B. DeMille directs Claudette Colbert as Cleopatra. Cinemas like the Louxor in Paris or the Grauman's Egyptian Theater in Hollywood testify to the renewed interest of the seventh art for this style loved by all. Egyptian buildings flourish in Strasbourg, Clermont-Ferrand, London, New York, Chicago, Brussels, Brazil...
In sculpture, Pompon, Csaky, Alberto Giacometti, Mahmoud Mokhtar or the Martel brothers also testify to their interest in the motif as well as in the synthetic approach to volumes in Egyptian art. Egyptomania imposes itself everywhere, including in the decorative arts, where it asserts itself both in distinguished creations - plays by Eileen Gray or Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann - and in everyday objects, which are more popular - crockery, bookends, vases, clocks and inkwells - humorously reinterpreting ancient iconography.
This work edited by Jean-Marcel Humbert, brings together the best specialists and offers for the first time a new light on the influence of Egyptomania in Art Deco.
